Nearly 350 m<sup>3<\/sup> of water per second breaks over the city. Almost the entire city is destroyed. The old synagogue built in 1843 by Henrik and Jozsef Lipovszkyego is one of the few buildings to have remained standing. Located on Hajn\u00f3czy Street, it is one of the most remarkable neoclassical buildings in Hungary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deemed too small for the community, a new synagogue designed by Leopold Baumhorn<sup><sub>1<\/sub><\/sup> opened in 1903 nearby. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"478\" src=\"https:\/\/hebdosyna.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-7-1024x478.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hebdosyna.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-7-1024x478.png 1024w, https:\/\/hebdosyna.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-7-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/hebdosyna.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-7-768x359.png 768w, https:\/\/hebdosyna.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-7-1536x718.png 1536w, https:\/\/hebdosyna.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/image-7.png 1755w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>New Synagogue of Szeged (1903)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This new synagogue is one of the largest in Hungary<sup><sub>2<\/sub><\/sup>. Based on new construction techniques from the beginning of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century, its frame is entirely metallic. Designed in a mixture of styles: Byzantine (the dome), Romanesque (the columns), Gothic (the starry vault above the organs) and Baroque (the exterior dome), it is considered to be of the secessionist-historicist style (one of the branches of Art Nouveau in vogue in the Austro-Hungarian Empire).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em><sup><sub>1<\/sub><\/sup> Lip\u00f3t (Leopold) Baumhorn (1860-1932) was a Hungarian architect. He is buried in the Jewish cemetery on Kozma Street in Budapest. Over the years, he created his own style of architecture and built more than twenty synagogues (Bra\u0219ov, Esztergom, Szolnok, Szeged, Budapest, Angyalf\u00f6ld, Gy\u00f6ngy\u00f6s, \u00dajpest, Zrenjanin, Murska Sobota, Novi Sad, <\/em>.. .).<br><em><sup><sub>2<\/sub><\/sup> 48 m long, 35 m wide and 48.6 m high, it has 1,340 seats (740 for men and 600 for women in the galleries.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parshath Noa&rsquo;h (\u05e0\u05d7 \u2013 Noah from the root \u05e0\u05d5\u05d7 (to rest): \u00ab\u00a0he is resting\u00a0\u00bb or \u00ab\u00a0he rested\u00a0\u00bb), Genesis 6:9-11:32.
