In 930 <sup>BCE<\/sup>, when the Kingdom of Israel separated into two states (the Kingdom of Samaria<sup>1<\/sup> and the Kingdom of Judah), Shechem became the capital of the Kingdom of Samaria <em>(Chronicles II 11,1 et seq.)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The centuries-old attempts to <strong>erase the Jewish<\/strong> <strong>history<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong> of this city have been so successful that many people today have never heard the name Shechem (\u05e9\u05b0\u05c1\u05db\u05b6\u05dd). They only know that of Nablus, a name derived from Flavia Neopolis (Greek: Flavia \u039d\u03ad\u03bf \u03c0\u03cc\u03bb\u03b7\u03c2 &#8211; Flavia New City).
