The latter, in 722 BCE, took people of Israel into exile:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>II Kings chapter 18.11<br>\u05d5\u05d9\u05d2\u05dc \u05de\u05dc\u05da-\u05d0\u05e9\u05d5\u05e8 \u05d0\u05ea-\u05d9\u05e9\u05e8\u05d0\u05dc, \u05d0\u05e9\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4; \u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d7\u05dd \u05d1\u05d7\u05dc\u05d7 \u05d5\u05d1\u05d7\u05d1\u05d5\u05b9\u05e8, \u05e0\u05d4\u05e8 \u05d2\u05d6\u05df\u2013\u05d5\u05e2\u05e8\u05d9 \u05de\u05d3\u05d9<br><\/strong>The king of Assyria took Israel into exile in the land of Assyria; he transported him to Halah, to the Haber, the river of Gozan, and to the towns of Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This is one of many cases of forced deportations implemented by the Assyrian Empire, during which many thousands of Jews were exiled to Assyria.<br>Based on the size and importance of Hamad\u0101n as a royal city or capital of the Medes, <strong>Vladimir Lukonin<\/strong><sup>3<\/sup> thinks it reasonable to assume that many of these Jews settled there, making the Jewish community of Hamad\u0101n the oldest outside of Israel<sup>4<\/sup>.<br><strong>Benjamin of Tudela<\/strong><sup>5<\/sup> in his <em><strong>Sefer Massa&rsquo;ot<\/strong><\/em> (\u05de\u05e1\u05e2\u05d5\u05ea \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 &#8211; Travel Book) recounts his visit to Hamad\u0101n.
