The messengers sent to \u2018Esav return with troubling news: \u2018Esav is coming to meet him with 400 men. Fearing confrontation, Ya\u2018aqov divides his camp, prays, and sends gifts. At night, he wrestles with a mysterious being who wounds him but blesses him, giving him the name <em>Israel<\/em>. The reunion with \u2018Esav ultimately unfolds peacefully, each brother going his own way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Shekhem, the abduction of Dinah leads to the massacre of the inhabitants by Shim\u2018on and Levi, forcing Ya\u2018aqov to leave the city in haste. At Beit-El, God confirms his new name; on the road to Efrat, Ra\u1e25el dies giving birth to Binyamin; Yitz\u1e25aq passes away in \u1e24evron, where he is buried by his sons. The genealogy of \u2018Esav is then established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sephardic <em>haftara<\/em> from Obadiah announces the downfall of Edom, descendant of \u2018Esav, and Israel\u2019s ultimate victory, while the Ashkenazic <em>haftara<\/em> from Hosea recalls Ya\u2018aqov\u2019s struggle with the angel and calls Israel to return to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Bereshit \/ Genesis 32:27<\/strong><br><strong>\u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05b9\u05bc\u05d0\u05de\u05b6\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05b7\u05c1\u05dc\u05b5\u05bc\u05d7\u05b2\u05da\u05b8, \u05db\u05b4\u05bc\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b4\u05dd-\u05d1\u05b5\u05bc\u05e8\u05b7\u05db\u05b0\u05ea\u05b8\u05bc\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9<br><\/strong><em>And he said, \u201cI will not let you go, unless you bless me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the central hall of the <strong>Marc Chagall National Museum<\/strong><sup> [1]<\/sup> in Nice, the cycle <strong><em>The Biblical Message<\/em><\/strong><sup><strong> <\/strong>[2]<\/sup> is displayed. Among the twelve monumental canvases, <em><strong>Jacob Wrestling with the Angel<\/strong><\/em> illustrates the narrative of Genesis chapter 32 (verses 25\u201333). The blues and violets convey the inner intensity of the struggle, the diagonals of the bodies express dramatic tension, and the angel\u2019s gesture touching Ya\u2018aqov\u2019s forehead evokes both combat and blessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the right edge of the painting appear: Ya\u2018aqov and Ra\u1e25el meeting at the well (<em>love and divine providence, Genesis 29:1\u201312<\/em>); Yosef stripped by his brothers and cast into a pit (jealousy, Genesis 37:23\u201324); and below, Ya\u2018aqov weeping over Yosef\u2019s tunic (grief, Genesis 37:31\u201335). In the background, Chagall inserts elements of his personal universe, notably his native village of Vitebsk, thus intertwining his individual memory with that of the Jewish people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum was inaugurated in 1973, at the initiative of Andr\u00e9 Malraux [3] and with the participation of Marc Chagall.
